Homes, Hospitals, and Life Lessons

Life lessons are usually hard lessons but they don’t have to be. I have gotten the opportunity to meet an elderly couple this week and get to know another couple all over again. And what I learned was necessary to long term happiness. One couple was at home and the other was at the hospital.             The first couple was my first couple; my parents. My mother (without all the dirty details) had open heart double bypass heart surgery on Monday morning. Dad didn’t leave mom’s side except when the staff made him, like for important things like surgery. I sat with dad all day on Monday along with many family and friends. When I walked into the waiting room at 5:30am he was sitting by himself. He was reading his Kindle (which is a fun story if you know my dad, the thought of him with a Kindle is amusing). He looked up as I said good morning and he didn’t look right. He had been praying silently and it showed in his eyes. But the reason he didn’t look right is because m

Am I a Hypocrite?

Guess what, I started my Life Group last night. Mine is a basketball group. We had a great time playing, cutting up, sweating, and just having fun. It had been a long time since I went out and just had fun playing basketball so that was cool. Although today I realize why I have begun to like golf more… J             In case you haven’t noticed it has rained a little bit over the last 24 hours. They say it has rained over 5 inches in East Tennessee. That’s not that impressive when you take the 2 inches out of one end of my basement. That only leaves 3 for the rest of you… not a big deal!             I am learning so much lately. I don’t know if it is because I want to learn or that I realized that I wasn’t really that smart and needed to learn more. Either way, I am learning at a record setting pace. Here is just a piece of it…             While preparing for a foundations class I came across the “Bible Study and Prayer” section. I wrote down the statement “to

Political Jesus - LOL, no really, I laughed out loud when I wrote that!

For the most part, I’m a current events kinda guy. I mean, I don’t obsess over politics or sports but I love the conversation about both and a variety of other things. Some would say, “That’s not a current events person, that’s called A.D.D.!” Well, you have point and I will act as if you didn’t make it.             For this reason, I had a great time yesterday provoking my friends by talking about the NFL. I have been a Dallas Cowboys fan from birth, it’s my dad’s fault (thanks Dad), and since they played last night and 98% of America either love them or hate them, no real middle ground, I threw out a “Go Cowboys” on tha Facebook, complete with pictures. This caused no small stir and my day was complete. Oh, by the way, did you know that 87.54% of all statistics are completely made up? That’s crazy huh?             Anyway, I also don’t usually talk about politics because they make me sick and people get really offended more easily with politics than they do relig

What Could be...

This could be life changing, no no no, strike that, family changing, no no no, this could change communities, no, still not enough, here it is, this could change the world. I mean, literally change the stinkin world. No hype; just fact. What you are about to read could change the world and it would start by changing you.             Before continuing I want to clarify. Yes, I am a preacher but this isn’t written as a preacher would. So, there will be Christians offended as well as people who aren’t believers. But I write this as a husband and a father. As a friend, a son and a brother. I write this will no ulterior motives. I will spell out my reasoning very clearly and hopefully it will be read by the 10 people that regularly read this with an open mind. Here goes…             I want to see the world changed. I get tired of hate. I get fatigued at political talk and people being offended because someone doesn’t say or believe things the exact way someone else does
