What I've Learned

So, guess what! If you drop a drinking glass on a granite countertop on Tuesday morning it explodes. Guess what else! If you do it again on Wednesday morning it will explode also! Now, ask me how I know that. Yep, you guessed it! I did that yesterday morning and again this morning. Some people may not understand but I get more upset when I do something silly or stupid than when other people do it. Sooooooo, I was slightly upset. But then I cleaned it up and the world was back in order. Although I don’t think Tammy is going to let me back in the cabinets before work anymore. Something about not being able to afford new dishes or something like that. She overreacts sometimes ;)
Oh and get this. The grass at my house is no longer green. It’s a crusty brown. I even think it’s starting to smell. That may be my senses in overdrive but it’s not pleasant. Grass isn’t supposed to crunch. I really don’t want to be outside around it either. Jade, our Great Dane doesn’t like it. She acts like she is trying to walk lightly as to not break the grass. It’s quite funny to see her overly long legs trying to keep her mammoth paws from touching the ground. Our yard actually looks desolate. Everything looks dead. If I go outside I usually go on the back deck where I can hear our waterfall running and splashing. It’s nice there.
I imagine there are people whose hearts look like my yard. You probably know them (hopefully you’re not one of them). They are, for lack of a better word, well, crusty. And when you are around them you feel like if you walk too heavily you will break something. It’s really sad though, isn’t it? I mean nobody really wants to be that way but yet that’s where they end up. Dry, dirty, desolate, and maybe even uninviting.
In the Bible, water was most representative of the Spirit of God. And we know that if we are children of God that we have the Spirit living in us. So why not rain on someone’s bad day? Why not bring what is most necessary to a dry place; God’s Spirit. Don’t preach. Just allow the Spirit of God to work through you and watch the fruit of His Spirit bring about change. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Let love rain! Let joy rain! Let patience rain! You get it? I can go on if I need to. Honestly, who are we really called to be? Messengers of Christ, right? Then be what He would want you to be. Be an example of Him in every situation. I know that he would never leave a crusty soul without first trying to heal it and you know that too.
He couldn’t even walk past a funeral procession without being so moved by a mother who was also a widow crying that he raised her son from the dead. You may not have the faith to raise the dead just yet but you can raise some dead spirits around you. It’s not easy but putting up with you and me isn’t ideal either right?
Go out and “make it rain” today!
