Stupid church
Ok, so there is no meaning in
the title but it did make you click the link. But please don’t close it just
yet. I do have something to share. Or to ask. Or maybe just to type and get off
my mind and my fingers.
I have noticed a growing trend
lately that I may be partly responsible for. I don’t like it and now I must try
and reverse it but still stay true to my convictions on the matter. That can be
difficult but it shouldn’t be. The reason that it is difficult really has less to
do with me being conflicted and more to do with followers of Christ being
afflicted. Afflicted with a “called” disease! I know that sounds silly but hang
in there for just a few more paragraphs.
I am certain that my true
calling in life is to be a Pastor. I enjoy sharing what I have learned from God’s
Word. I enjoy relationships for the most part and want to help others in their
relationship with Christ. I believe that God has equipped me with tools that
help me fulfill this calling. Along the way I have seen other places of
ministry that have presented themselves to me. I remember a time when there was
no one to mop the foyer and vacuum the sanctuary and I gladly did it; even
though I wasn’t called to mop or vacuum! There have been times that our home
mission’s team needed an extra hand/back on a project and I gladly went out and
helped; even thought I wasn’t called to do home missions (neither am I gifted
to). I have sat in on Wednesdays when the boy’s club teacher had an unexpected
emergency, I was a co-youth pastor for a season, and I have given food away on Saturday
mornings and helped direct traffic. I have done many things that I wasn’t
called to do but that needed to be done.
This weekend I will fly to
Panama to do missionary work but it isn’t my calling. I try to be a good dad
but it isn’t my calling. I try to be a good husband but it isn’t my calling.
Breathing, eating, driving, texting, or emailing isn’t in my sweet spot of what
God has “called” me to but I do each of them every single day!
I’m a little disappointed in the
people that are waiting on the opportunity to fulfill the “calling” while
passing on legitimate ministries (needs) that the local church has. Serving in
the nursery at church may not get you on stage but don’t think it’s not a
ministry that makes a difference. Serving is the key. And if you want to know
the path that will lead you to that place of fulfillment, then just serve. Ask
someone what the need is at your church and fill it. Just serve. You may not
understand it but countless people before you do. As I am willing to serve and
do whatever needed to be done, God begins to open doors. And as I am faithful
to his church and his ministry, He will give me more. Don’t allow laziness and
selfishness to steal your opportunity to see God work through you! Do
something!!!!
