Oh My
What a week we just concluded. My
week starts on Monday. Sunday is the grand finale of what is always an exciting
eventful week. This past week has been one for the record books. I can never
remember a week that was more overwhelming. I want to share a little with you.
On
Sunday of last week, my mom was able to come home from the hospital. That was
good because as soon as she got home she started looking more like mom. Tammy
and I took her heart healthy KFC for dinner (calm down, we got the grilled
version). We stayed for a while before heading home.
Monday,
October 1st, was the beginning of a wild ride. I did hospital visits
first thing Monday. 2 people from the church were there, the reasons are none
of any ones business. The first was an elderly lady that is always a hoot to
talk to. I was there when she chose her meals for the following day and she
even made that funny. The next was a man about my age. He was having a tough go
of it but had gotten some good news and was hopefully going home the next day. I
always dread hospital visits but at the same time when I go, I enjoy talking
with people. From there I went to the office and started preparing what would
be the beginning of a new series on family. Tammy called to say that she had to
work over and wouldn’t get off work till 6:30pm. I went home and fixed dinner
and left it on the stove after Kelcey and I ate and then got ready for my
basketball Life group. Jordan walked in and said I could ride with him and we
headed to the church. Passed and waved at Tammy on the way and returned home
around 9:15pm. Watched the Cowboys embarrass themselves and me and then I went
to bed.
I
don’t want to bore you with all the nasty details that were anything but boring
while they were happening. But needless to say by Thursday the energy tank was
on empty and the crisis tank on full. Here are the cliff notes… Had a death of
a grandmother of one of my church family on Wednesday morning. Went to school
to pay money to my most despised company (Jostens) and then sat through a
financial aid for college seminar where they told the group basically if we
worked for a living and paid our bills that the government would not help us
with our children’s college; yay! Had a couple’s marriage falling apart that I had
just spoken with the week before (dishonesty kills, by the way). Had a very
close friend, almost second daughter, get a bad report from the doctor and her
baby is due this week. On Saturday I performed a funeral at 11am and wedding at
2pm.
I
actually got tired just writing that and remembering some of the feelings of inadequacies
over the last week. Then, I feel like
that attitude carried over into my message yesterday morning and that really
irritates me. You see, everyone has a part of their job that is the most
important. No matter what happens, there is one part of your job that must be
done right. The highest priority is the one thing that even if everything goes
crazy, this one thing must be completed. For me, as a Pastor, it is delivering
the message on Sunday. Don’t get me wrong, everything else is important also
but I am responsible for sharing the Gospel and what it means to individuals
and families each week. And when I feel I don’t do that right, it gets at me.
I
was feeling a little better after prayer and just putting my thoughts into this
blog is somewhat therapeutic. In prayer I was reminded of my core values that I
had committed to live by.
- I will live my life for Jesus Christ and do great things through Him.
- I will be a great (GREAT! Good is not enough) husband to Tammy first and then a great father to my two crazy kids. This includes leading and supporting them spiritually, emotionally and financially.
- I will make a difference in those around me.
As I felt God speaking
to me this is what I believe he was reminding me of. If and when this gets out
of order, people suffer. I suffer. Order is nice. Order is good. And this is my
order. God may make adjustments to this order because He holds the top spot but
no one else is allowed to change it.
So
with that, bring on the week.
