Bryant Baskteball Classic
What a great weekend! I mean not just so, so but great! It was so good I’m going to tell you about it. Tammy had one of her 53 paid holidays on Friday so I decided to take off on my off-day (What that means is I usually work my off day but not this off day; I took this off day off, get it?).
Anyway, we took off Friday but Thursday night we turned off all Friday alarms and alarm clocks. We had a big day planned but wasn’t sure we were going to get it all done so we attacked the day the way big companies do; we had a meeting. We woke up around 7:30am or so and laid in bed and talked till almost 9. Upon leaving the “meeting” Tammy fixed some healthy strawberry muffins for breakfast (hehe). Long story short, we cleaned off the back deck, pressured washed the deck and everything that was returning to it and finished just in time for Tammy to attend a ladies event at the church and me to go celebrate a friend’s daughter’s birthday.
Saturday was Spring Fling day. Huge RIO Network wide Easter egg hunt and all the fun that goes with it. Then it was home to clean INSIDE the house this time and mow the yard. All this was completed just in time to grill some chicken breast and eat a nice meal on our newly clean back deck (cool how that works isn’t it?).
Sunday was Easter Sunday. We had an awesome day at church. The church was full as expected and we had a great time. My mother gave a powerful testimony of her life growing up and then I preached about always having hope no matter what the circumstances. It was really a great day. I know God touched many people’s hearts.
Lunch was great. My whole family ate together at Mom and Dad’s. Remember I wrote about that place last week. It was just as I wrote about. After lunch was a kick ball game for the ages. My brother, me, Ana Beth, Alex, and Tammy (and Ethan part time) verses Jordan, Kelcey, Austin, Jeremiah, Emma (and Evan part time). Time got the best of us and we ended up tied with only minor injuries. Most of them to the lungs of the over-40 crowd (me and Tammy).
After that we visited with Tammy’s parents for a little while before inviting them up to witness the Bryant Basketball Classic. I sat this one out and after witnessing the blood and intensity was very glad I did so. Jordan “the great” verses Kelcey “the dirty” and Tammy “the dirtier”. It was brutal. Within 10 minutes Jordan was walking away holding his eye asking his mother why she did that. To which mom replies, “I was going for the ball” and Jordan responds, “Mom, the ball was down here (around his ankles)”. The intensity picked up a little from there with the Dirty Girls winning a close battle 10-8. Of course there was a rematch. Anytime you lose you must rematch.
The second game started off tight. It was 4-4 when Kelcey was reaching in to scratch, er, um, I mean, try to steal the ball and got her jaw too close to Jordan’s big shoulders. She spun around like Mike Tyson’s opponents in the early 90’s. After a brief visit from the team doctor (that would be me screaming to quit acting like a girl and play) she returned to action. The very next play proved to be the last. Kelcey was playing under the basket while Tammy was mugging, er, um, I mean, playing defense on Jordan. As Jordan drove the lane Tammy reached out to block his shot (stop laughing, you have no idea how funny it looked in person. Never mind, I was there, you can laugh). When Tammy jumped and swatted at the ball, somehow, nobody really knows how, but somehow, Tammy’s elbow connected with Kelcey’s mouth. This time blood was shed and I’m pretty sure she spit some. At this moment Kelcey’s face was actually laughing while her eyes and mouth were crying adding to the moment of, “do we laugh, do we cry, do we check on her?” The team doctor called the game in light of the TKO to Tammy’s teammate.
The night ended with me and Tammy on the couch and Jordan and Kelcey in the hot tub. It was a great weekend. Great big Jesus weekend.
