Thanksgiving, Buicks and Die-Nastys
I pray that all 3 of you that read
my blog had an awesome Thanksgiving. I was a living example of what grazing
looks like. And I kinda feel like a cow these days so it fits. Thanksgiving is
really my favorite holiday. Food and family. No worrying about gifts and travel
and shopping and all that stuff. Of course I’m excluding black-Friday shopping
in my favorite memories. This year was especially great because my parents
invited Tammy’s parents to eat with all of us. So we only had one house to go
to and all the family was there. I don’t think I left the table for about 2
hours. Most of that time was listening and telling stories and laughing and
remembering. Yes, food and lots of it but if mom hadn’t had a turkey and we
would have eaten cold sandwiches it still would have been incredible.
An
update on the Buick… When we last left her, she was in ICU at Butlers Wrecker
Service. She has since been moved to a transitional care unit (Foster’s Auto
Body) to determine if rehab is right for her. I consulted with the specialist
today and he just stared at me with a grim look on his face and shook his head.
Annnnnnnnd, I forgot to tell you that the fine upstanding gentleman that pulled
out in front of me had no insurance. So that little premium that is at the end
of the statement each month that reads, “uninsured motorist coverage” will be
taking care of this one. Basically, my insurance will pay for everything and
then choose whether or not to sue the before mentioned gentleman. I guess that depends
on how expensive those blue jeans were that they cut off of me. I said all of
that to say this. I have been researching Die-Nastys (aka Dynasty) on the
Craigslist but Tammy has said, “NO!” She seems pretty firm on her stance but
Jordan and I are working on her. I am fine, by the way, thanks for asking. No,
really, thanks for asking, because so many people have been so sweet. I received
phone calls and text messages regularly asking me how I am. Knee is going to be
checked again by a specialist (not the guy at Foster’s, he specializes in
Buicks) and we will see how it is. But other than that I am good. Not really
that sore other than the “I’m just old” sore that happens each and every
morning!
Finally,
I ate lunch at Smokin Joe’s today. It was amazing as always. You should go taste
for yourself. I’ve never had anyone come back to me disappointed that I have sent
out there. As usual after my meal I walk around back to the smoker and talk to
Mr. Joe. I always enjoy my time with him because he reminds me so much of my Papaw
Bryant. I told him about my awesome Thanksgiving and he looked up from the
sauce he was stirring and with that perfect southern drawl he said, “You know
what Pastor, that’s the secret to great people… Great family and great family
time.”
I
agree with Joe. Not that it matters to anyone else but I do. I hope you enjoyed
your Thanksgiving and are looking forward to Christmas. Maybe not for the gift,
although you may have a gift you are anticipating, but for the time again when
even the busiest families take time and spend it together.
Waiting
patiently on word from the Buick Specialist,
Pastor
Dad
