Wow

Wow! Wow! Wow!

That is the only way to describe my 22nd wedding anniversary. Yesterday was crazy busy. I had planned to take Tammy to the movies. I would get her windows tinted on her new car. Run to my basketball practice with our precious, sometimes trying, 3rd grade girls team and then Jordan would bring Tammy to the gym before he had to be at the church. I know, I was pushing it but it was possible (I hoped).

As I am running to west Knoxville to get her car done, Tammy called. She said she didn’t want to go to the movies that the movie she wanted to see didn’t come out till today so she wanted to wait till Saturday night. I was a little bummed. I always want special days to be special and I felt like my busy schedule had let us down; AGAIN! She said that she would fix us a dinner and we could celebrate at home. Great, she was taking care of the night instead of me (I don’t like it)! I like doing stuff for her.

Now I know I’m not any busier than most of you but sometimes my busy is so unexpected and inconvenient it seems a little worse. Trust me; no one has a crisis of biblical proportions at times when nothing else is going on. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do but the balance between family, God, and work can sometimes get tilted waaay too much toward work.

Window tinting takes 45 minutes longer than I expected so now I’m rushed to practice. I haven’t talked to Tammy since she got off of work and again, I’m not thrilled with the way my day is going. At the end of practice I talk to my girls about faith. Believing in something you cannot physically see (kinda like when you see a great day in the morning but toward night you stop believing because what your eyes are seeing).

Tammy calls and asked when I will be home. I explain that I have to run by the church then I will be home. I finally get home at 7:30pm. I pull in the driveway and get out of the car and commence my acrobatic exercise of carrying everything inside. I walk in the front door and it begins…

All the lights are out in the house. It smells amazing. As I walk out of our foyer into our living room it’s there. What is there you may ask. IT! The entire setting was “it”! Table covered with flowers and candles. A plate with a huge steak and baked potato (my favorite meal). Rolls, butter, and, what is that; oh yeah, music. Then I really got the “Wow”! Tammy had even dressed for the occasion with a black skirt and sweater and boots. She was gorgeous.

Understand this ladies. A beautiful woman, dressed for a night out, yet your staying in, steak, potatoes, bread, butter, music, and that incredible smell of your favorite meal; pure ecstasy! Buy your guy stuff; eh, ok. Go out and then a movie; its good. Fix his favorite meal and dress up for him and for him only; WOW!

Yeah, I know, some of you guys think married life is boring. Some of you may even be married and think it’s not great. I feel so sorry for you. This isn’t the movies, this is real life boring marriage (wink)!

Not sure what you’re looking for but if you spent as much time loving the one you have instead of looking for someone else you might just get a, “WOW!” every once in a while.

For now? It’s ok to be jealous! I’m so excited about the next 30-40-50-60 years or so! Bring it on!
Oh and by the way, thank you Tammy. Uhmazing!

  1. Kuddos Tammy! There is nothing more awesome than a Godly woman taking care of her man. Brad, you know what the best earthly example of God's grace is? You and I didn't deserve such beautiful, Godly women yet He gave them to us anyway.....God is good!
